YUGOSLAVIA

                         HALL

This hall represents the largest and most re-
presentative room in the Palace and it was en-
tirely made according to the design of Mihailo
Mika Janković. During the formal receptions
it accommodated around 1,500. The monu-
mental wall compositions make the decora-
            tion of this hall unique.
            Those are the following:
            - “Let u kosmos” [Flight to cosmos] by great
painter Petar Lubarda (1962). This composi-
tion represents an expressionist view of antic
mythological scene of Helios chariots as a me-
taphorical need of a human being to rule the
cosmos and to comprehend new spheres of
            life and achieve spiritual exaltation.
            - ,,Svečano – Putevima nove Jugoslavije” [So-
lemnly – Roads of New Yugoslavia] by Lazar
Vujaklija (painted from 1962 to 1977), as the
equivalent to Lubarda’s composition on the
opposite wall of the hall. With his stylized sym-
bols the painter finds new direction of young
            socialist republic Yugoslavia somewhere
between East and West, which is the direction
            of Non-Aligned Movement. Composition’s
main motifs are forest, house, bird and hu-
mans which symbolically represent the Yu-
goslav as a peacemaker with a dove in hand
and Yugoslav as a warrior with a sword in
hand, always ready to fight for his people. This
painting carries a strong message of love and
faith in strength of the republic and its future.
            - “Stvaranje nove Jugoslavije” [Creation of New
Yugoslavia], a triptych-mosaic by Mladen Srbi- playing. The gathering is followed by celebra-
